Fitting In Fitness

Now that I had the ball rolling on the business side of things, and the order list for the products that I wanted to carry, I needed to be sure that the physical store side of things had the capability to live up to what I was doing. There was some work that needed to be done in the meantime when it came to some plumbing work and other light repairs, but I was kind of taken aback when I came back to the store location after being out of town for a weekend. There was some form of mishap with the installation of piping in the attic portion of the building, because I came back to a somewhat flooded store, a wrecked ceiling and even damage to the woodwork of the roof. Needless to say, I went into a little bit of a panic mode.

Fortunately, my home city isn’t short on professionals when it comes to matters like this, and a neighboring business suggested I check out as it was a company that he used to deal with a similar problem. I gave them a call, they came and checked it out, quoted me a week, and had it done in five days. This time walking back into my storefront I was taken aback with how great it looked. Which was just the boost I needed to get back into the swing of things, and to really push forward with what I was doing. I had shipment orders coming in days, racks and other equipment to put up and only a few hands to do it with.

The determination and drive that I got through years of sports was what did the most to push me and my fellow workers over the top. We put in long days, and even longer hours to make sure we were one hundred percent ready to hit the ground running when the product came in, and a grand opening to worry about. While I focused on the event, the staff finished up the last of the store, and by the time the delivery trucks rolled around, we were ready. We spent the next two days setting up displays, getting samples ready for the opening, and a bunch of other small tasks, and when the day rolled around, I stood at the door, key in hand, and ready to open for my first day of business.

The grand opening went really well. We had a lot of local athletes and coaches come out, people who were worried about their health, and just general fitness nuts like myself. I was pleased to have the crew from the martial arts gym there with demonstrations and sign ups, and overall, it turned out to be much more of a draw than I anticipated. We got to get some good information out there when it comes to treating the machine that is the human body, and hopefully raised some awareness. From here on in, it’s all about improving and longevity.
